My home incinerated in the Altadena fires. In front of my river rock wall I had 3 garbage cans in front with stuff in them. The only one that didn’t burn to the ground was the blue one, even though it was full of stuff including wooden pieces.

Stainless steel bolts, commonly made from grade 18-8/304 alloy, will form a native chromium oxide on the surface. This prevents oxidation in normal conditions. When formed the metal needs to cool in an inernt gas environment to prevent carbide precipitation. Additional passivation can be used to remove free iron and improve corrosion resistance. This is typical with 316/316L in industrial uses. Additionally the 304/316 alloys are paramagnetic, likely less effected by microwaves.

Oak Creek in the Tieton Basin just outside of Naches, WA was hit with the same thing last year. I know Oak Creek better than most anyone, been going there for a lifetime… plus I’ve work in and/or been in the aftermath of dozens of forest fires.
